Would the real Tim Buntel please stand up

2007

This week was full as a goog (pardon the pun), as we shared a whole bunch of info around the RIA and enterprise spaces at our Solution Partner Summit and webDU. A very special thanks to everyone who came across from the US and abroad to present at either one or both of the events. We really appreciate your time and efforts!

So as we saw webDU 2007 come to an end, there are some interesting moments I’d love to write about ;-) Here goes …

1. Webjam – What a great way to show off some of your coolest work, or even just to have a short burst of fun in a 3 minute presentation slot. Held before the banquet dinner on Thursday night, Webjam hosted a fantastic bunch of local and international talent, presenting on all things Flash and beyond. The highlight of the session was the winning presentation by our very own Brian Chau who gave us his final display of Flash 8! I’ll post some photos as soon as I’ve downloaded them from my camera.

2. webDU banquet – The conference banquet was a hit, with the entertainment bringing along more than I’d bargained for. This year had a different twist with a Kath and Kim look-a-like doing a song and dance show incorporating many of the audience. This little black duck was one of them. Yep, that’s me … Being mistaken for Tim Buntel isn’t a bad thing, but is it bad when “Kim” comes down off the stage, sits on my lap, and entertains?! Well, let’s just say that Mr Buntel owes me, BIG time!

** If there’s anything you want to see if ColdFusion Scorpio please let me know, I’ve got some leverage ;-)

Although this was my first webDU I’m extremely thankful to Geoff Bowers and the Daemon team for asking me to be involved. There’s such a great bunch of talent locally that can sometimes be forgotten, but webDU really brings back that focus. Great job team!

Thank you to those who came to see my session on using custom components in Flex and Apollo, I’ll post more info on this soon. And a big thanks to everyone who came past the Adobe stand to either say g’day or to pick at our brains. The response was overwhelming.

Cheers!

[...] Tim Bluntel from Adobe walks into a room of Coldfusion developers, he instantly has their attention, they are glued to his every word and I’m absolutely convinced that if Tim broke the news that Coldfusion was about to dump XYZ feature, he’d be the one guy who could break that news (people would complain, but only via blogs etc and not to him direct). Your session was good. Was one of the more practical sessions, and actually got to see how a Flex vet imported and linked custom libraries (only learnt Flex 2.0 on Wednesday in James T. session.)
